Plot of The Queen Who Crowns (2025)

In The Queen Who Crowns – Queen Wongyeong (Cha Joo-Young), born as Lady Min during the Goryeo period, hailed from the influential Min family, a prestigious lineage known for producing high-ranking government officials across generations. She married Yi Bang-Won (Lee Hyun-Wook), known at the time as Prince Jeongan, the fifth son of King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty.

Yi Bang-Won harbored ambitions of becoming the next king, but his father, King Taejo, chose his second son, Yi Bang-Gwa, as his successor. Unhappy with this decision, Lady Min became a pivotal figure in supporting her husband’s political aspirations. Acting as a kingmaker, she played a crucial role in helping Yi Bang-Won ascend the throne as King Taejong, ushering in a new regime.

However, their relationship began to strain after Yi Bang-Won became king. King Taejong took numerous concubines, which deeply upset Queen Wongyeong and further widened the rift between them. In an effort to consolidate his power and authority, King Taejong began to curtail the influence of Queen Wongyeong and her powerful family, leading to increased tension and a deteriorating relationship between the two. Despite their shared achievements, their personal and political conflicts cast a shadow over their legacy.
