Jung Ki-Hoon (Koo Kyo-Hwan) was once an archaeologist dedicated to uncovering supernatural phenomena Monstrous . His life took a drastic turn after an unexpected incident, leading him to start publishing an occult magazine called Monthly Strange Story and run a YouTube channel of the same name. Driven by his ex-wife Lee Soo-Jin (Shin Hyun-Bin), he arrives in Jinyang County to investigate the “Gwibul,” a Buddhist statue believed to be possessed by an evil spirit. There, he encounters a series of bizarre and terrifying phenomena.
Lee Soo-Jin, formerly an expert at deciphering ancient letters and symbols, had an illustrious career as an archaeologist. However, her life shattered when her only child passed away, prompting her to move to Jinyang County. In this eerie place, she becomes entangled in mysterious occurrences and embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind these unsettling events.
The residents of Jinyang County, including police substation chief Han Seok-Hee (Kim Ji-Young), her son Han Do-Kyung (Nam Da-Reum), governor Kwon Jong-Soo (Park Ho-San), and troublemaker Kwak Yong-Joo (Kwak Dong-Yeon), also find themselves grappling with the inexplicable phenomena that plague their town.
As Jung Ki-Hoon and Lee Soo-Jin delve deeper into the secrets of Jinyang County, they confront their own pasts and face unimaginable horrors. The story explores themes of loss, redemption, and the unyielding human spirit in the face of the supernatural.
